You'll witness New Zealand's indigenous people perform live. A local guide will escort you to the "marae" (Maori village) where you are served their traditional Maori "hangi" feast. This is a great chance to experience their one of a kind Maori customs and traditions.

What's Included
This 3.5 hours tour starts with pick up from your local Rotorua accommodation. You're then taken 20 minutes outside of town to a a traditional Maori marae. Before you're allowed to enter, a chief is selected, a song is learnt and you will be welcomed with an eerie cry.
Before you enter the village you will experience the powhiri (welcome ceremony) with open fires in front of traditional whare (houses). A Rangiatea culture group will showcase their haka song and dance in the wharenui (meeting house).
Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!
Important Notes
Please Note: You'll be booked for the 6:15pm show, if the show is full you'll be allocated to attend the 5pm or the 7:30pm show.
Hotel pickups start approximately 30 - 60 minutes prior to the show time, but you will be advised of the exact pickup time on reconfirmation.

The Maori village trip is a must do. Our family of 5 loved it. My husband was even chosen as "chief" for our bus. It was a super simple affair which began by our being picked up at our RV park. Our bus driver was utterly AMAZING. I cannot remember his name but he knew how to say hello in 57 languages and knew probably half as many country national anthems. Emmy children were amazed by him. It was a really fun experience and a definite highlight to our short 7 day trip. Thanks for recommending it and arranging everything for us.
